On Monday the 28th of January, I learnt about HTML. It stands for Hypertext Markup Language. A few points I have learnt are:

  1. HTML is universal markup language for the Web
  2. HTML enables us to add graphics, media, hyperlinks, input forms, graphs and stuffs.
  3. They are saved in a text file that any browser can read and display
  4. HTML has various codes which add in contents to the webpage
  5. Some of the major and basic codes are <html>, <head>, <body> and many more.
  6. In each code, the opening code will not have any slash like this :<html> but the closing code will have a slash like this:</html>
  7. CSS stands for "Cascading Style Sheet." Cascading style sheets are used to format the layout of webpages
  8. CSS is used to set the text styles, table sizes, and other aspects of web pages
  9. For HTML, if we were to save it in notepad, it must be saved as All files, not text document
  10. The file name must have a .htm or .html at the end of it

Earlier this week, Mr Kent Cheong taught us about "Web 2.0". Web 2.0 is better than Web 1.0. The difference is that in Web 1.0, only the creator of the website contributes and the surfers receive. However, in the Web 2.0, both the creator and the surfers contribute to the web and provide the web with information and at the same time, both ends receive.

Web 2.0 include Facebook, Twitter, forum pages etc.

This is a link to the video about Web 2.0:

Enjoy!
Last Monday on 21st of January, Mr Kent Cheong, our Infocomm Studies teacher, taught us many things about the internet. The one I was most interested in was the difference between Web 1.0 and 2.0. I will talk about that later, anyway, I have shared the powerpoint my group and I have created.
From this presentation, I learnt that there are many search engines we can use. However, only a few of them are frequently used. For example, Google and Yahoo!. I have also learnt that there are many types of graphic formats. They include PNG, JPEG, BMP and many more. These three which are quoted are the ones which are more frequently seen. JPEG is a compressed image as many details that cannot be seen by the human eye are removed, thus the file size is reduced.

My self assessment point is 2.
From Mr Kent's lesson on 21st January, I had many takeaways from his lessons. On this post, I will include some points I have picked up about the Internet and the World WIde Web.

 The points include:

5.The golden rule to netiquette is that you treat the way you would want people to treat you
6.Chat online is real-time typed conversations which takes place in the Internet
7.Plug-ins extend the capability of the the browser and can be obtained at no cost from various browsers
8.Virtual reality is an simulation of the reality through computers
9.Blogs are reflections from the blogger which states the hobbies, likings of the blogger which can be viewed publicly.
10.A link is connection between websites. A link is the website address.
